Glenwood
Presbyterian
Church
Our Mission Statement:
Proclaiming Christ and living as His disciples by sharing God's love in worship, witness, service, and mission.
What does it mean?
- Proclaiming Christ:
- We believe that the church must reflect the image of Christ. Does this mean the people that attend Glenwood are perfect? Absolutely not! In fact, as Paul pointed out in 1 Corinthians 1:26-27:
"Brothers, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. (27) But God chose the foolish
things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong."
We at Glenwood are amazed at how Christ uses us, in spite of our shortcomings, to proclaim His name to the world.
Living as His disciples:
- At Glenwood Presbyterian Church, we strive daily to live as disciples of Christ. We are committed to finding God's will for us individually and as a corporate body. Some of the ways in which we feel
God reveals His will for us are through the sharing of His love in four distinct areas: Worship, Witness, Service, and Mission.
- Sharing God's love:
- We love because God first loved us. We believe that the only appropriate response to Christ's love for us demonstrated by His death on the cross is to share that love with other people unconditionally.
Our fellowship with other believers is important to us. Encouraging each other, laughing with one another, and sharing each others joys and sorrows, victories and defeats, is a major reason the church exists
and we try to cultivate that fellowship here at Glenwood.
- Worship:
- Our worship is designed to be a corporate worship rather than a spectator sport. Through responsive readings, hymn singing, and prayers, we strive to make sure that everyone participates in the worship
experience. We take great joy in our choir and special music during the service and we try to make the service relaxed while maintaining a mood conducive to spending quality time with God.
- Witness:
- Through the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19), Jesus has commanded us to not only be disciples, but to make disciples. We believe that we can accomplish this not only by bringing brand new Christians into
the fold, but also by building up and strengthening those who have already accepted Christ as their Savior. Our church programs are geared toward building a solid foundation for our faith, rather it be through
learning about Christ in Sunday School classes or experiencing Him through service to the community.
- Service:
- We believe that God calls us to be servants to each other. Just as Jesus washed the disciples feet (John 13), even the one who was about to betray Him, we are to humble ourselves and look for opportunities
to serve others. At Glenwood, we currently have programs that aim to feed the hungry of our community (GAP program), house the homeless (Interfaith Hospitality Network), and much more!
- Mission:
- While we see opportunities for service locally, we see opportunities for mission work both nationally and internationally. We have sponsored missionaries all over the world, support a family who just returned
from several years of mission work in China, and we contribute to the Presbyterian Church U.S.A. which sponsors a large number of programs both at home and abroad.
